Let me start by saying I tried typing this earlier in way more length (as I tend to do), but it felt like massive overkill, so let's just get to the point here.
In Firelands I've ended up doing significantly more healing than I have tanking. However all the while, I've maintained my focus on tanking gear. Need rolls were on tank gear, VP went to tank gear first, etc. I'm wondering what people think, if I should just switch to focusing on healer for next tier.
Of course what role I play is largely out of necessity, so it's hard to predict what will be needed down the road, but at current that seems to be the better path. I say this largely because it doesn't make much sense for me to be focusing more on the role less played, and in doing so taking gear from those who would use it more often.
I'd also like to point out that I have no problem healing, and never have (well, except maybe back in Karazhan on Giraffe...) and I actually probably like the state and direction of holy moreso than prot (from a gameplay point of view at least). My prot spec certainly won't go anywhere, I think my brain would explode if I couldn't build my character to be proficient in more than one role. Plus it seems to me like focusing holy makes more sense than being prot/holy just because it makes so much more sense for the tank to have a DPS spec, usually. Lots of 1-tank encounters in Dragon Soul.
TL;DR in my mind it makes more sense to switch my focus around to holy, unless all our tanks are going to disappear once SWTOR comes out.
Not that it's particularly related, but I'm also strongly considering going healy / tanky monk in MoP.
